Queries: Considering the similarities between Mithras and Christianity

I came across some information that has caused me to think.

Let me share:

  1. Mithras was born December 25 to the immaculate virgin Anahita.
  2. The babe was wrapped in swaddling clothes and placed in a manger attended by shepherds (perhaps born in a cave).
  3. Mithras was considered a great travelling teacher.
  4. Mithras had 12 disciples.
  5. He performed miracles.
  6. He sacrificed himself for world peace.
  7. He ascended to heaven.
  8. He was viewed as the Good Shepherd, the Way, the Truth and the Light, the Redeemer, the Savior, the Messiah.
  9. Mithras is omniscient (hears all, sees all, knows all).
  10. He is identified with both Lion and Lamb.
  11. His sacred day was Sunday "the Lord's Day"
  12. His religious sacraments had a Eucharist, "Lord's Supper"
  13. He sets his marks on the foreheads of his soldiers.
  14. Mithras emphasized baptism.
  15. On a day of Judgment, those already dead would be raised back to life.
  • Vatican Hill was established OVER Mithrian remains.
  • There is a preponderance of evidence that shows Christianity as formulated during the 2nd century was not based on a "historical" personage of early 1st century.
  • Mithraism pre dated Christianity by hundreds to 1000s of years.
I realize that this will not be popular with what we have learned all our lives, but you have to admit that it is interesting. Maybe the phrase, "History repeats itself" has more truth than we want to admit.
